Any Downside to Unlocking Your Iphone From AT & T ?

The biggest downfall is when your iphone is unlocked using one of the many unlock solutions out there and you got a new firmware update some of your functions such as itunes or texting can become unusable.The solution is do not update your firmware or itunes as doing so will almost certainly void your fix and possible lock your phone permanently.

How Can I Jailbreak And Unlock My Iphone Safely ?

There are two types used today. Both types will jailbreak and unlock your phone. They are the software and chip methods. Let's first discuss the software fix and how it works.You will need the following equipment:

1.) Flashing software ( which you can download )

2.) A USB cable to connect your phone to a computer.

3.) A computer with Windows 2000 or Newer, a USB Port, 800Mhz+, 256MB RAM

4.) And your iphone.

First connect you iphone to a computer with the USB cable. Next downloaded the software from a vendor of your choice. Follow the instruction included with the downloaded software and unlock you iphone usually with in ten minutes. There are pluses and minis to this fix. The upside lets you unlock your cell phone within minutes as you download the software from the Internet once you pay for it. The downside is by installing this fix onto your phone you will probably void the iphone's warranty. The other fix is simply a chip you place under the sims card in your phone. No software to download or install so your warranty should stay in force. The downside is the chip will be shipped to you requiring several days to a week before you can unlock your phone.

Who Do I buy From And What To Look For ?

One important item to look for in an unlock solution regardless of which method you choose is note your firmware's number. In other words if you are running firmware 3.0 don't get a fix that is only capable of unlocking 2.2. If you are unlocking a new 3GS phone be sure the software states that it will unlock 3GS.

Your phone's version ,if activated,can be found by going to Settings > General > About > Version If you phone is not activated 1. ) Turn on your phone 2. ) slide for emergency call and type *3001#12345#* > call and go to Settings > General> About > Version. Below is a chart that might help you.

What Other Networks Can I use My Iphone On ?

Your phone, after unlocking ,can be used on any GSM network. Examples are AT & T, T-Mobile and Alltel (now owned by Verizon. A more complete regional list can be found in our links section. GSM is also popular in Europe and Asia. The other network is called CDMA. GSM cell phones will be controlled by Subscriber Identity Module or removable (SIM )cards where CDMA will be not.

As with any fix there are good vendors and there are bad vendors for your iphone unlock solution. Beware of cheep fixes with little or no support. Here today and gone tomorrow or with an inferior product especially with the sims chip fix.

Great tips Mike that I am sure many will find useful! I am still not sure I personally would risk messing up the Iphone, but I can see how people would do it for the benefits!
